Literacy Days 2012





300 children from Title 1 schools including Glades Academy, Pahokee Elementary, and Palmview Elementary plus 50 at risk preschoolers attended this years Literacy Days, held at Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens. The children, ages preK – 2nd grade, visited twenty stations with activities that included:

  • Crime Prevention education presented by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department
  • Interacting with artists/illustrators as they demonstrated various illustration techniques
  • Poets recite their works and works of other writers
  • Movement and word game
  • Poetry activities
  • Interactive Language Arts experiences from librarians as they presented inspirational stories, books and hands-on activities
  • Live music incorporated into the language arts experience
  • Interaction with positive role models in the community from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Interaction with live horses and listening to stories inspired by horses
  • Adinkra stamping of the Ashanti people of Ghana.  Learn about Adinkra cloth, language and culture  and create your own Adinkra cloth.
