Alan Lebow Awards 2012
(West Palm Beach, FL – January 19, 2012) Kids’ Dreams, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charity for at risk youth in Palm Beach County and the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, presented the Third Annual Alan Lebow Awards for Excellence in Shakespearean Performance on Thursday, January 19, 2012.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw addressed the group of approximately 75 students and their families from nine Title I schools in Palm Beach County with a commendation for their achievement in dramatic arts and an explanation of the importance of making good choices in life. Sheriff Bradshaw explained the importance of Kids’ Dreams as its mission is to provide at risk youth with the opportunity to participate in the cultural events in Palm Beach County. Kids’ Dreams Board Members Patricia Lebow, John Levey, Elan Tenenbaum and Captain Jeff Lindskoog of PBSO were in attendance.
In her opening remarks, Kids’ Dreams President, Patricia Lebow, said “We are so fortunate to have Sheriff Bradshaw here tonight to present these 11 scholarships and speak to all of you about the importance of continuing your education and following your dreams.”
The Education and Community Outreach Department of the Kravis Center provided an Audition Skills Workshop led by a professional stage director to help participants prepare for their auditions. The Kravis Center also collaborated with Drama and English teachers at Title I high schools to recruit participants. A distinguished panel of judges presided over the audition process.
Kids’ Dreams awarded the two first place winners, Jonathan Raffoul from Boynton Beach Community High School and Johnson Sinophat from Palm Beach Lakes Community High School, with scholarship checks in the sum of $1,000. The Two Honorable Mentions, Rood Emmanuel from Inlet Grove High School and Angel Padua from Palm Beach Lakes Community High School, each received scholarship checks in the sum of $800. The following students were each awarded checks in the sum of $200: Brendan Gardner from Boynton Beach Community High School, Yamari Hanslip from Palm Beach Gardens Community High School, Bridgette Karam from Boynton Beach Community High School, Isabella Letourneau from Atlantic Community High School, Tatyana Renald from Inlet Grove High School, Alex Stephenson from Santaluces Community High School, and Simone Stewart from Atlantic Community High School.
A Reception was hosted by Kids’ Dreams and the Kravis Center for all participating students and their families prior to their attendance at the Kravis Center presentation of ‘Twelfth Night.’
