Alan Lebow Awards 2017

(West Palm Beach, FL – January 28, 2017) Alan Lebow Awards celebrates eight years of Excellence in Shakespearean Performance. Judith Mitchell, Chief Executive Officer of the Kravis Center, welcomed guests to the award ceremony presented in the Kravis Center’s Khoury Family Dance Rehearsal Hall. Otis Birdsong, former National Basketball Association star, gave the keynote address.

Created by Kids’ Dreams Inc. in memory of its co-founder, Alan Lebow, the award honors students from Title I high schools who perform short selections from William Shakespeare’s works before a panel of judges.

Two top winners, each earning a $1,000 cash prize:

• Kathie Torres, a junior from Royal Palm Beach Community High School, performed a monologue from The Winter’s Tale.

• Ryan Gosling, a senior from Royal Palm Beach Community High School, performed a monologue from Romeo and Juliet.

Three students earned Honorable Mention awards and $500 each:

• Sendjia Alliance, Santaluces Community High School

• Morgan Kennedy, Boynton Beach Community High School

• Claudia Torres, Royal Palm Beach Community High School

Six other students received recognition as Distinguished Participants and earned $250 each:

• Adam Benjamin, Boynton Beach Community High School

• Raymond Cuas, Boynton Beach Community High School

• November Nielsen, Boynton Beach Community High School

• Emily Medina, Santaluces Community High School

• Sidney Smith, Royal Palm Beach Community High School
